Detailed Description of available positions:
Ham Radio Operators
Net control and radio communications are a key part of making a rally successful. An amateur radio license is required to volunteer for one of these positions. Radio operators are stationed at the start, end and in most cases somewhere in the middle of every stage. Operators are also placed at every spectator area during the event. More experienced operators are at rally headquarters maintaining our "net control", which is the main communication method for our event. All operator volunteers will need to provide their own equipment. For some locations, a high power radio and an Antenna with greater than 3db of Gain, may be required.
Net Control will have a link to GRLevel3 Weather Radar and will broadcast any significant Weather related updates from the National Weather Service on the rally frequencies being utilized.
If you have questions concerning ham radio use during the rally, please contact us here.
Marshals
A marshal's main job is to control road access, work with rally and non-rally traffic and spectators. There is no training required to hold this position and this role has one of the best opportunities to see the cars up close and at full speed. Every stage has a designated Stage Captain that is in charge of the stage and the marshal locations.
Medical/EMT/ First Response
Safety is the main concern of all rallies, not only for competitors, but volunteers and spectators as well. Medical assistance that can quickly be on site of any emergency situations is of great importance. Medical teams are needed for every stage. Medical doctors, nurses, paramedics, first responders, and licensed EMTs are encouraged to apply. Volunteers are required to provide their own equipment.
Other Opportunities
From pre-bannering the stages to helping set up the awards ceremony, help is gladly taken wherever there is a willing volunteer. Please fill out any part of the rally you would like to assist with on the worker sign up form.
Thank you for volunteering we greatly appreciate your help!
